[ZION, IL] – Each year, Rich Eaton, the Knights Tootsie Roll drive chairperson, works with local retailers to arrange donation stations in the front of their stores. This year the Tootsie Roll drive was stationed at the entrance of Piggly Wiggly in Zion on September 9th and 10th. Eaton organized the schedule of volunteers from the Knights of Columbus while Deb Rabine, Director of Development at NorthPointe Resources, recruited NorthPointe staff and community members for the drive. “It takes quite a number of volunteers from both organizations working together to cover the entrances of each store for the duration of the two day drive,” said Eaton. On average, the drive brings in about $2,000 which is given to NorthPointe to support their mission of providing support services to people with disabilities.
The Knights of Columbus of Our Lady of Humility Catholic church in Beach Park has supported NorthPointe Resources through its “Tootsie Roll” Fund Drive for many years. Each fall, the Knights, along with volunteers from NorthPointe, stand in front of local retailers to hand out Tootsie Rolls candy and collect donations. NorthPointe Resources is the only beneficiary of funds from drive which help to fund NorthPointe’s services for individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental illness.
In addition to the Tootsie Roll fund drive, Our Lady of Humility supports NorthPointe Resources in many other ways. Recently they donated chairs to NorthPointe for their cafeteria as well as household items and clothing for NorthPointe’s residential and Mental Health programs. “We are extremely grateful to the Knights and all of the folks at Our Lady of Humility for their generous support of NorthPointe Resources,” said Rabine.
